I'm looking at switching insurance companies. When I was first insured, I was single and under 25 years of age. I was able to get a deal through my parent's insurance company because they were both university graduates, and I was already a college graduate at that point. Now, for whatever reason, the insurance company we are currently with (TD Meloche Monex) is wanting to switch things up.

Can anyone recommend a decent insurance company in Alberta? The insurance company my wife is with doesn't seem to really want the extra business.

I'm probably an ideal customer - I drive a fairly boring car (4 door Honda Civic that's 13 years old), I'm older now (31) and married, I've never had a ticket, and I've never been in an accident - and I'd like to keep it that way.

I've had pretty good service from State Farm, as they carried my policy for home/auto for more than one move rather seamlessly. I like that there are actual people in an office in my city to take things up with instead of only call in centers, and willing to pay a bit extra for that. Shop it around though.

How are they switching it up? I'm also with TD Meloche Monex, so this is relevant to me.

Good to know. I might have to give them a ring/pay them a visit.

Basically, because when I first signed up for insurance, I was somehow under the umbrella of my parents. This was news to both me and my parents, as they found out that I'm no longer a student and no longer single. They didn't like that, and it seems like they suddenly want me to change my policy.

State Farm hadn't crossed my mind. I might have to look into them.

Ya they were super helpful. Kirkham is a broker so they take your info and run it through a bunch of companies to see who the cheapest is. Wawaneesa was cheapest and they also gave me a discount when I insured my house through them.

If you are in the Edm. region, I like Katherine Hanna in Sherwood.

Best of luck!

I'm in Edmonton. I was in a minor fender bender and cause $3500 of damage and my insurance company was gonna more than double my premium(to more than $3500/year). so I started calling around and RBC ended up being way less than what I was paying even before the fender bender with the other guys. I switched to RBC before they even got one payment out of me. So they paid out the claim without getting anything back. IN YOUR FACE FUCKERS!!!

I would suggest RBC. I'm 29, 1 accident (backed in a parked car), 2 speeding tickets and I pay $1500/year for a 2013 Ford Fusion,1993 Mazda 323 & my apartment tenants insurance.
